Everyone has those spots. Those areas on their body with stubborn pockets of fat. The fat doesn’t respond to dieting, and it doesn’t respond to concentrated exercise. It seems nothing short of a hunger strike will have any effect on these fat pockets.
If this sounds like you, maybe it’s time for liposuction with Dr. Gurley. Liposuction permanently removes the fat and slims and smoothes your contour.
Liposuction has been around for a long time, but the techniques used continue to improve. What was once a pretty violent procedure performed under general anesthesia has become much easier to handle. And recovery has changed dramatically.
Dr. Gurley prefers liposuction combined with ultrasound. During the procedure, the ultrasound waves help soften the fibers that connect the fat cells to reduce the need for such dramatic movements of the cannula under the skin.
Dr. Gurley first makes a series of very small incisions to access the targeted areas. Local anesthetic is injected into the areas to increase patient comfort and reduce bleeding and subsequent swelling. Next ultrasound is used in the areas to break up the fat. A small cannula is inserted into the incisions to suction out the fat cells, making multiple passes but employing a feathering technique. This makes for a smoother final result.
Dr. Gurley’s liposuction patients are able to drive and return to work in just one or two days, resuming full activities in two weeks. Dr. Gurley recommends a compression garment be worn over the treatment areas to both reduce swelling and to help the skin and tissue adjust to their new contour. The majority of the swelling is gone within three weeks, but healing continues for a few months.
Fat removed is gone permanently. If, however, a patient puts on weight, fat can accumulate in adjacent areas.
