Eyelid Lift – St. Louis
As we age, the delicate skin around our eyes loses its elasticity. An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, helps remove extra skin around the eye in order to create a rejuvenated appearance. What is even more compelling than a traditional eyelid lift, is a special combination of treatments very carefully executed by Dr. Gurley where an even more beautiful and natural result is possible. Dr. Gurley believes that when she combines her areas of expertise which include facial injections, lasers, and surgery, she is able to obtain results that exceed any of these treatments when performed in isolation. Dr. Judith Gurley takes pride in her ability to beautifully place injectables and fat, deliver laser treatments and delicately execute facial operations in such a way that preserves facial function and gracefully restores youth and beauty. Dr. Gurley says “It is not just having excellent technical skills and knowledge that produce the best results, it’s the unique combination of having an aesthetic eye together with technical strengths that allow me to achieve those unbelievably gorgeous results that we are able to get today! I can’t do it with only surgery anymore. I need the lasers, skincare, neurotoxins, and fillers in addition.”
What You Can Expect
ProcedureWhat does the procedure entail?
In the operating room, the eyes are protected. Incisions are carefully hidden in the upper lid crease or within the lower eyelid. Careful planning, marking and drawings are made before the patient goes to surgery. The procedure is out patient and can take as little as one hours time. Dr. Gurley will make sure your anatomy will allow the results you are looking for. Dr. Gurley is refreshed to hear from her patients that they don’t want to change the shape of their eyes or drastically change their eyes in anyway and so she is able to give her patients natural results, simply restoring freshness and youth to the eye area.
Alternatives Are there any alternatives?
Lasers or chemical peels may help with some fine wrinkling around the eyes. Excellent skincare can often lighten and brighten the eye area and is always recommended in combination with either laser, filler, neurotoxin, peel, or surgery. With so many options, sometimes surgery is delayed or not needed. A careful and meticulous plan is outlined with the patient in order to always get the best results possible.
RecoveryWhat can I expect?
It may take 1-2 weeks for bruising and swelling to completely resolve. Most patients are comfortable going back to work right away often wearing glasses to hide any signs of surgery. The stitches stay in for less than a week, but are so fine they are virtually invisible. If bruising does develop, camouflage makeup can be worn. We recommend refraining from aggressive physical activities for at least one week. Pain medicine is not needed for this surgery and often eye drops are prescribed.
CandidatesWho is a good candidate?
You may be a candidate for this procedure if:
You have excess skin, wrinkling, or puffiness around the eye; you find that makeup around the eyes is difficult to put on or does not last long, or your eyes make you look tired or unrested, even when you’ve had plenty of sleep.
