Breasts droop over time as a natural result of aging, breastfeeding, pregnancy, changes in weight, or the effects of gravity. Just because your breasts start drooping doesn’t mean that the days of firm, perky breasts is past and gone. A procedure called a breast lift can reverse the effects of aging.
Breast lifts is just what it sounds like: a plastic surgeon performs a procedure that pulls the breast up. The procedure may also include removing excess skin or fat. Nipple placement is also very important to the breast lift. In preparation for the surgery, you will decide with your plastic surgeon where the nipple will be after the surgery. The doctor will then mark the target location on your breast. If your nipple is too big, it may be reduced through a breast lift.
Although a breast lift can be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation, they are technically different procedures. A breast augmentation involves the insertion of a silicone implant to change the size and shape of the breast. A breast lift will not change the size of the breast. The purpose of the breast lift is to make the breasts appear higher and perkier. If you are interested in larger, higher breasts, consider undergoing a breast lift in conjunction with a breast augmentation. If you are interested in smaller, higher breasts, consider a breast lift with a breast reduction.
As with all plastic surgery, the approach to recovery can seriously affect the results of the procedure. Consult with your doctor about how to prepare and what to avoid. Generally, patients are counseled to wear a bra or special wrap to support the breasts and prevent them from drooping. There will be follow-up consultations the day after the surgery and a few weeks later to remove stitches and drains. Activity or alcohol may be limited immediately after the surgery, but you should be able to return to your normal life very quickly. You can even breast feed!
