Adolescent Breast Reduction – St. Louis

Breast reduction surgery helps young women feel more comfortable with their bodies, feel less self-conscious, and have their bodies match their chronological age. The physical, social, and psychological impact of large breasts can be overwhelming to young women. A breast reduction can help restore confidence in your well-being by having breasts that match your age and are no longer a concern for you.

What You Can Expect

ProcedureWhat does the procedure entail?

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you can go home the same day of surgery. You get to pick the size you want to be when Dr. Gurley helps you envision the possibilities. The incisions produce a scar around the areola, and down from the areola to the crease underneath the breast. There is a limited scar beneath the breast depending on how much excess skin is removed. All stitches are dissolvable and drains are not needed. Even with the post surgical healing you will be able to enjoy more proportionate and age appropriate breasts right away.

RecoveryWhat can I expect?

Following the surgery, there is no limitation on range of motion of the arms or showering. You may drive and return to work or school within 24 hours. We recommend that you refrain from running, jogging or any strenuous exercise for 4-6 weeks. You will quickly enjoy more perky, lifted, smaller breasts that are more comfortable and will allow you to wear the clothing you’ve always wanted.

CandidatesWho is a good candidate?

You may want to consider this procedure if:

You are unable to exercise and play sports because your breasts get in the way or make you uncomfortable; Your breasts are “droopy” or uneven: You get unwanted attention making you self conscious; You have back, neck, or shoulder pain; You have experienced rashes or chafing underneath your breasts, or You have difficulty finding bras, clothes or swim suits to fit.

CostWhat is the approximate cost for Adolescent Breast Reduction?

The cost for adolescent breast reduction surgery usually falls within this range, however you will receive an exact cost when you meet with Dr. Gurley. This range is dependent upon these size of your breasts and the amount of liposuction that may need to accompany your reduction.

Adolescent Breast Reduction Surgery explanation video by Dr. Judith Gurley

So I’m often asked, when is the right time for breast reduction surgery in an adolescent? First off, the patient must be physically mature. Breast tissue itself needs to be at a point where it’s no longer changing, and this timeframe at the earliest would be approximately two years after her first menses. The second component is to ensure that the girl is emotionally prepared both for the procedure itself as well as the recovery. And the third, and perhaps the most important thing that I look for is that she is excited and engaged in the process. That means that she really wants the procedure. She’s not doing it for anyone other than for herself. Breast reduction surgery can be for women of all ages, starting from the adolescent years on up.

Patients who see Dr. Gurley for adolescent breast reduction find a range of benefits from the procedure. Dr. Gurley lightens the weight of the breasts while repositioning and lifting them higher on the chest wall. This means your bra doesn’t have to work so hard.
