What is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?

This procedure removes excess skin and fat on the upper or lower eyelids.  It is best for eyes that have skin hanging on the upper lid or lashes, wrinkled skin, puffiness, or a tired look.

What to expect with Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery results in a rejuvenated look with bright and well rested eyes. This procedure often makes putting on makeup easier and longer lasting.

How is the procedure performed?

In the operating room, the eyes are protected. Incisions are carefully hidden in the upper lid crease or within the lower eyelid.

What are the alternatives available?

Lasers or chemical peels may help with some fine wrinkling around the eyes.

Eyelid Surgery recovery process

It may take several weeks for bruising and swelling to completely resolve. Most patients are comfortable going back to work in 1-2 weeks.

What risks are involved?

Associated risks include asymmetry, persistent wrinkles, lowering of brows if not done in conjunction with brow lift, injury to the eye, and extensive removal of fat giving the eye a sunken appearance.
