Is Breast Implant Revision Surgery right for me?

Breast Implant Revision Surgery is a large part of Dr. Gurley’s practice.
You may desire or need to have your breast implants replaced for a number of reasons:

R &R Gurley 065.04.15

    1. To change the size
    2. To correct a damaged or ruptured implant
    3. To control tightened scar tissue around an implant
    4. To correct or change the outcome of your primary augmentation
    5. To handle changes in your tissues around the implant due to pregnancy or weight fluctuation

Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Judith Gurley, MD, has the experience to counsel you on options so you will feel better about your breast implants. Whether the implants need to be re-positioned or the breast tissue needs to be lifted or tightened, Dr. Gurley has very high expectations for beauty. Many patients feel better about their implant revision surgery than they ever did about their initial breast augmentation.

What are my options?

Implants are better today than they ever have been before. Many women choose to change saline for FDA approved silicone implants and other patients are looking for revision surgery to optimize breast beauty. Over time women may want to change the size of their implants, remove implants, lift the breast tissue or change the breasts in ways that primary breast augmentation could not achieve.

What is the expected outcome?

A better overall size, shape, position, and softness of your breasts.

What can I expect during the procedure?

Usually the original incision can be used. Repositioning the implant can be a little uncomfortable but typically removal and replacement of breast implants is pain free. Reducing areola size, lifting the nipples and tightening breast skin will result in additional scarring. Changing the location of the implant from in front of to behind the muscle is customary.

Are there any potential risks?

Similar risks apply as those of your initial surgery, including loss of nipple sensation, asymmetry or healing problems.

What is the recovery process?

Most patients find it possible and pleasant to stop pain medication within 24 hours. This allows you to resume normal activities and desk-type jobs within 24-48 hours. Strenuous activity is discouraged for 4-6 weeks and specific post-operation instructions reflect Dr. Gurley’s recommendations based on your anatomy.

This procedure is performed at a surgery center. Anesthesia is carefully administered by highly trained personnel Certified by The National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist to make your experience as safe and painless as possible. Dr. Gurley’s goal is to offer you a lifetime of enjoyment and beauty from your breast implant revision surgery. Consider a consultation by Dr. Gurley to know if you are a candidate.
